Inspiration: Fairy Tales

Fairy tales and folk tales are not innocent children's stories.  They explore issues like sexuality, predation, death, greed, illness and anger, among others.  Central to the tales are blood and milk--symbolic of sexual maturity, as well as death--and many fairy tale illustrations and photographs feature the colors red and white to make allusion to these elements.  The inspirational photos that I have gathered seem (to me) to reference fairy tales both dark and light, brooding and innocent.  And some images are just beautiful items, artwork, or makeup depicting the fairy tale colors of blood and milk.

Photographs were gathered from various sources on the web, especially:  weheartit.com, and
http://betweenpeaceandhappiness.blogspot.com/ and the flickr stream featuring the amazing photographic (dreamy, surreal, fantastic, fairy tale-inspired) artwork of Lissy Elle Laricchia:

Enjoy!
